Rest Stop … Christmas Eve

Christmas holds different meaning for different people. But most of us look to Christmas as a time to reflect on our past, our family, our faith. We look to our traditions and hope to pass them along to the next generation.  But as we look to our past let’s look even deeper into the past; into the time of the birth of Jesus.

Jesus was born to a poor teenage girl in a stable in a small town in the far reaches of the Roman empire.  He was born to a girl who took a leap of faith and trusted in her God even though she probably did not understand her pregnancy nor the future implications.  But she trusted in faith. She persevered, not knowing the outcome.  Onward she traveled, despite hardship and fear.

For me, Christmas is not only a time of celebration and remembrance; it is also a time for us to be challenged to live as did Mary.  To trust in faith in our God.  To persevere along the journey even though we may be scared or not understanding it’s end or purpose in our lives.  Follow the example of Mary, a poor young teenage girl, who struggled the best she could, and in the end provided the world with it’s savior.

I share this song as its words (see below) speak to me this Christmas season:

Breath of Heaven

I have traveled many moonless nights

Cold and weary with a babe inside

And I wonder what I’ve done

Holy Father, You have come

Chosen me now to carry Your Son

Do You wonder as You watch my face

If a wiser one should have had my place

But I offer all I am for the mercy of Your plan

Help me be strong, help me be help me

Breath of heaven

Hold me together

Be forever near me

Breath of heaven

Breath of heaven

Light in my darkness

Pour over me Your holiness

For You’re holy

Breath of heaven

Hold me together

Be forever near me

Breath of heaven

Breath of heaven

Light in my darkness

Pour over me Your holiness

For Your holy breath of heaven
